You can help defend access to lifelong learning by getting involved in this campaign: *** WHAT YOU CAN DO*** Sign the online petition NOW: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ELQFunding/ To get more involved in this campaign, click here: http://www.ucu.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=2903 SIGN THE PETITION AGAINST MILITARY AID TO COLOMBIA The UK gives military aid to the Colombian government, despite the fact that army units have assassinated many hundreds of trade unionists, including many education staff. Please add your support to the ‘Justice for Colombia’ petition to suspend UK military aid to the Colombian armed forces until their human rights record improves. Colombia remains the most dangerous country in the world for trade unionists, with 84 activists having been murdered last year, and UCU supports the campaign to freeze military aid until the murders end.

or call her on 020 7520 3228. HOW DO I LOBBY MY MP? We all need friends in high places. Whenever we’re campaigning, whether nationally or locally, we’re always looking for allies and it really helps to have MPs’ support. A local MP will always reply to a letter from a constituent and they will be sensitive to issues around their colleges and universities, particularly near election times. No college principal or vice chancellor likes having their MP write to them following correspondence from UCU members. Still less will they like questions being raised in Parliament or motions being put down that reflect our perspective. The DAN website contains detailed advice about how and when to lobby your MP. See you in the New Year Jonathan and the DAN team
